MINUTES OF THE CRIME PREVENTION FORUM HELD ON 25/02/2009.

ATTENDANCE.   • MINUTES. Read and agreed.
  • MATTERS ARISING. Stephen Berry from the probation Service said that 300 hours had already been worked in just 5 weeks, but is concerned they are getting work that BHCC should be doing which is not in the community payback remit. Praise from residents for all the hard work they are doing and what an improvement for the estate. Dan Hartley has a contact for paint if they can use it.
  • COMMUNITY SAFETY. Linda Beanlands introduced Jenny Knight who is now the anti-social behaviour coordinator, Helen Dando dedicated service to East Brighton is to continue. The office is located in the city centre at New Road, and they have a whole range of services some on crime reduction, monitoring, planning special operations with the police, domestic violence and 13 other types of problems. They are willing to come to the Crime Prevention Forum as well as communicate with us. They have Victim Support in their offices as well as being linked to children and the young people’s trust. The ASB team have quite a few caseworkers and deal with all the work that comes up. Housing keeps a hold on cases that affect tenancy etc, Graham Page to attend these meetings. It was asked if we can build links for older persons and racial cases together, and Paul to try and take this up with housing. Residents are willing to help with integration, communication is the way forward. Debbie Corbridge-family pathfinders project,. Older People and Community Safety(20th March) to analyse crime from the age of 50, looking at offenders (mental health issues), and have been asked together information and produce a leaflet for distribution, and will have public meetings to lead to actions.
  • POLICE REPORT.  There were no crime figures this month but in the 2 weeks up to half term there was no criminal damage. They hope to have their IT system up and running in the next 2 weeks so Swallow Court should be ready for them. Our Neighbourhood Office opened this on 5th February and launched book and reading buddy scheme to include numeracy. The author Peter James is to be patron of the reading buddy scheme. There has been a slow uptake on the use of Swallow Court but once the newsletter is published it should be better, Mears intend to have apprentices , work experience as well the normal repairs. Jacqui Cutter has won the High Sheriffs Award for Community Policing in 2008.Doris said 39-41 Coolham Drive have signage but this because they want to blend in with the neighbourhood. Paul Gorringe is the new Park Ranger. We can email police about anti social drinking on www,tellsussexpolice.com.
  • ANY OTHER BUSINESS. Newsletter training starts on the 18/03/09 for 6 weeks at Robert Lodge. Andy said their consortium have had been success in their bid, WCPF need to be looking for funding. The council have finally post and roped the cricket pitch in East Brighton Park.
